Editorial Standards: How We Verify What We Publish

Our guides help readers choose memory cards, readers and storage products for their devices and workloads. These standards explain how Top Select Canada checks the information in those guides, communicates limitations and handles corrections.

Who writes our guides

Our guides are published under Top Select Canada as the company author. Top Select Canada is responsible for the content, its review and any corrections. These guides are written from a retailer’s perspective; they are not independent product reviews.

What we verify and against what

We use primary sources wherever possible, including manufacturer product pages, technical data sheets, device manuals, official compatibility lists and published industry standards. We check that a source applies to the exact product model, capacity and device discussed. Where information is incomplete or conflicting, we explain the uncertainty rather than present a recommendation as confirmed.

Compatibility: We check card format, supported capacity, interface and the device manufacturer’s requirements. A card fitting a slot does not establish compatibility with every capacity, recording mode or feature. We distinguish a manufacturer-listed option from a recommendation based on published specifications.

Speed: We distinguish maximum advertised read or write speeds from minimum sustained write requirements. We check speed-class claims against the product specification and explain any stated conditions, such as a compatible reader or interface. Advertised maximum speeds are not a promise of the speed a reader will achieve in every setup.

Endurance: We check the manufacturer’s stated recording-hour ratings, workload assumptions and warranty conditions for the relevant model and capacity. We do not treat a warranty period as an endurance rating or apply one product’s rating to another. Where endurance data is unavailable, we do not invent a lifespan estimate.

Any measurements described as our own testing must identify the product, device or reader, method and relevant conditions. Otherwise, specifications and performance claims are attributed to their published source.

Our review process

Before publication, we check the guide’s main recommendations and technical claims against the relevant sources. We check model names, capacities, units and links, and make sure qualifications appear beside the claims they affect. We distinguish documented facts from our interpretation and recommendations.

If a key claim cannot be supported, we remove it, qualify it or hold the recommendation until it can be verified. The same standards apply when an existing guide is updated. French versions are reviewed for technical meaning and Quebec-French wording before publication.

How often we review our guides

The schedule below is our review standard. We also review affected guidance when we learn of a material change or receive a credible correction.

Guide review schedule
Content Scheduled review Earlier review trigger
Device compatibility guides Every six months Updated device requirements, firmware guidance or compatibility lists
Speed and performance guides Every six months Revised specifications, reader requirements or relevant standards
Endurance and recording guides Every six months Changed endurance ratings, workload assumptions or warranty conditions
Buying guides and product comparisons Every six months New or discontinued models, or changes affecting recommendations
Editorial standards Every six months A change to our verification or publishing process

Corrections

If you find an error, contact us through the contact page on our website. Please include the guide URL, the claim you believe is incorrect and a supporting source if available. We review the evidence and correct information that is inaccurate or misleading. Material corrections include a note explaining what changed; minor spelling or formatting fixes may be made without a correction note.

What we do not do

We do not claim hands-on testing when a guide is based on published specifications. We do not guarantee performance in every device, extrapolate endurance ratings without explaining the assumptions, or present unsupported compatibility as confirmed.

We sell products discussed in our guides. That commercial interest does not replace technical evidence. We do not describe our guides as independent reviews or present a manufacturer’s advertising claim as our own measurement.
